Mentality
Has a powerful drive to learn as many high-level skills as he can, and will start situations to fulfill this drive. He acts smug and confident, but in reality he suffers a massive inferiority complex, and will absolutely melt down if he’s called out on being incapable of something.
Power
Watcher is a skill thinker, capable of copying any skill he witnesses in-person with the proficiency level of whoever he saw using the skill. This is purely passive, copying any skill he sees. This adds to a sum of knowledge of the skill. He is unable to learn things the natural way.
For physical skills, this gives him the knowledge and muscle memory needed to perform something, but not necessarily the stamina or strength. So he can learn the best way to lift 500 pounds, but will still have to train his strength to actually be able to lift that much.
To accurately use mental skills (such as hacking, solving puzzles, playing chess, etc), his power facilitates a very powerful, but still imperfect, memory that allows him to store strategies and knowledge with near-perfect recall.
This allows him to copy skills that are granted by powers as well. For instance, he would be able to copy Zipdash’s skill with vehicle repair, or Duelist’s swordsmanship ability.
He retains these skills in the presence of a power nullifier. He must have a clear view of what’s happening in order to copy a skill, so if he wants to copy someone hacking into a mainframe, he has to be able to see the keyboard and the monitor. Seeing something done on camera doesn’t count.
Watcher can duplicate himself up to four times, each with the full complement of his skills. The copies can exist within 100 yards of a designated ‘real’ Watcher, chosen at time of duplication. Any copy going outside the range fades from existence like mist. They can exist indefinitely until they leave the area of the original or are reabsorbed. Each duplicate is fully autonomous, but are unaware of what the others are doing outside of a basic idea of how they would think. Only the real one can learn new skills with his power, the others are static. When duplicating, he takes all worn and carried objects with him involuntarily. If a copy is killed it disappears, and Darrin knows that he can create a new one. If Darrin is killed, the duplicates vanish.
The clones are human-level durability, easily killed. After a clone dies or.is reabsorbed, it takes two rounds before a new one can be made.
Backstory
Darrin was told his whole life that he was gifted and would be able to do anything. School wasn’t a challenge for him, and he had no problem getting into a good college. He graduated with an associate’s degree in applied sciences and went to be a programmer for a small company.
During the most important project of the year, he found himself floundering. He had sold himself as this big shot who could cover all the bases. When his teammates came down with the flu, he suddenly found himself having to do everyone’s job by himself, and he couldn’t. Deadline loomed, the boss was expecting the world of him, and he couldn’t do it. He realized he was going to lose his job, the first time he had ever failed at anything.
